Picassos statement, Inspiration exists but it has to find you working, is quite significant and applicable in everyones life. In the statement, Picasso emphasizes the importance of working hard by putting concerted efforts into a vision or well-defined goals before expecting to be inspiredAre you still struggling to find out what you want in life? Are you still waiting for an inspiration unexpectedly to hit you? Are you yet to start living? A lot of people still wait for miracles to happen in their lives. I believe that the only way a miracle can happen is by triggering it to come your way. It is therefore imperative for an individual to have a clear vision and well-defined goals, which he or she can work towards achieving. Unfo rtunately, many individuals are reluctant, or unwilling altogether, to follow this path oblivious of the fact that time will never wait for them. Such people are comfortable waiting for inspiration from elsewhere hence putting their dreams on hold.According to Pablo Picasso, inspiration can easily be found if one is willing to go an extra mile in their endeavours. Inspiration is the driving force behind success, and thus individuals should be motivated to work hard in order to live a more fulfilling and meaningful life. People are often reluctant to pursue inspiration owing to the perception that it is not yet the right time (Geron 13). However, I believe there is nothing such as the he right time to start living an inspired life. Therefore, Pablo Picasso'squote Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working, underlines the fact that the only way to live a more fulfilling and meaningful life is by seeking inspiration. In order to make progress towards living a meaningful life, it is important for individuals to make progress in everything they do. Analysis of Medea as a Tragic Character - Literature Essay Samples

What lends tragic literature its proximity to human nature is that the border between being a tragic villain and a tragic hero is extremely thin.A question that this statement will certainly bring up is whether there is such a thing as a hero or a villain or whether these terms are defined by the ideals of the society. Tragedies such as Macbeth or Oedipus Rex feature a character with heroic traits who falls victim to a personal flaw or an outside circumstance which finally pushes that character into becoming a villain. Macbeths greed and hunger for power are the causes for his descent into madness and villainy, and Oedipus falls victim to fate because of his pride and finally ends up tearing his eyes out and running into exile. A similar progression can also be followed in Euripides Medea. Medea is a play about a woman, Medea, who is betrayed by her husband, Jason, and expelled from the city. In an outburst of treacherous but cleverly planned rage, she avenges herself by first p oisoning Jasons new fiancà © and then killing her own children, thus leaving Jason without distinction. Though Medea possesses certain traits of a victim and a heroine, it is impossible to identify her character as solely one of these. In order to fully comprehend her tragic character, one must instead view it as a combination of these traits and trace her development into a villain.Medeas position as a victim of fate is already defined by the first lines of the play, in which the nurse tells the tale of Medea and Jason so far. Medea had, through Heras influence, fallen in love with Jason and given up her home, killed her brother, and taken various risks upon her to save him and live with him in a foreign country (1-15). Throughout the play, Medeas ill fate is recognized most clearly by her servants and fellow women. According to the nurse, Medea had gone through the entire adventure to retrieve the Golden Fleece and defied her household only to be deserted by him and left sl ighted, and [crying] aloud on the Vows they had made to each other, [] [calling] upon the gods to witness what sort of return Jason has made to her love (20 -24). But her situation only becomes worse when she is informed by Creon that he is going to force her into exile (270-274). After a long discussion in which Medea pleas to Creon and finally succeeds in getting permission to stay for one day, the chorus of Corinthian women remarks that a god has thrown suffering upon [her] in waves of despair (358-9). Here one can once again see that it is the fellow women who feel sorry for Medea and go beyond the prejudices against foreigners to recognize the terrible fate of which she has become a victim. One may assume that women were, in certain ways, oppressed in ancient Greek society and that they could thus relate to Medeas problems. It is the identification with Medea that leads the chorus to see her heroic traits and even admire her as an avenger for all women. In an attempt to s oothe Medeas sorrow, the chorus states that God will be [her] friend in this (156). This statement implies that the chorus believes her cause to be worthy of Gods support and thus a good cause. The chorus views Medea as a victim of ill fate and is naturally inclined to support her. Though this statement is made before the chorus finds out about Medeas brutal scheme, it must be noted that the chorus reaffirms its support for Medea after she has revealed her plans. After a monologue in which Medea finally does reveal her plan and ponders about how to implement it, the chorus delivers an ode about the oppression of women: Flow backward to your sources, sacred river, and let the worlds great order be reversed [] women are paid their due. No more shall evil-sounding fate be theirs (407-413). In this ode, the chorus condemns the oppression of women and encourages Medea to pull through with her plan. It views this as a rare chance for women to avenge all the wrongs that men have do ne to them and to turn the hierarchy around, putting the men at the mercy of women. Medea acts as a kind of a revolutionary saviour to them. Another trait of Medeas which may be considered heroic is the extent of her self-sacrifice for the sake of vengeance. The fact that she goes so far as to kill her own children for her cause proves her strength and determination. In an extensive monologue, Medea wavers but finally overcomes her feelings of love and sympathy and comes to the conclusion that she must kill her children (995-1053). This act theoretically puts Medea into the position of a martyr, who is willing to sacrifice more than just her life for her cause.Practically, however, it is this last step that causes Medea to finally lose the support of the chorus. Though it may have supported the murder of Jasons new fiancà © as a means for revenge, the killing of Medeas own children is morally intolerable. But Medeas descent to a villain starts long before the murder of her c hildren. Her reputation as a violent, ruthless woman at the beginning of the play is reaffirmed by the nurses foreshadowing statement that she may even kill the king and the new-wedded groom (42) and Creons fear that she is a clever woman, versed in evil arts (283), who may injure [his] daughter mortally (281). Medeas evil intentions further become evident through her reaction to the news from a messenger that Creon and his daughter are dead. She replies that those were the finest words [he has] spoken (1101) and that [he] will delight [her] twice as much if [he says] they died in agony (1109-1110). Medea shows no sign of guilt, remorse, or pity. Instead, she listens intently while the messenger reports every detail of their agonizing deaths. Finally, the brutality of the means that Medea uses to get revenge suffices to classify her as a villain. The deaths of Creon and his daughter, as well as the murder of her children, which, though it occurs backstage, is still presented to the audience through the childrens cries what can I do and how escape my mothers hands? (1237-1248). Are so horrible that even the chorus, who was on Medeas side, cant accept them: O your heart must have been made of rock or steel, you who can kill with your own hand the fruit of your own womb (1253-1255). With the murder of her children, Medea has reached the climax of her villainy. So one can clearly trace the progression within the play of a victim with certain heroic traits who, because of her ill fate and her ruthlessness, becomes a villain. This progression, which greatly resembles the standard progression of tragedies such as Macbeth or Oedipus Rex, combines the traits of a victim and a hero and pursues the development of these traits into those of a villain. But the question about the definition of such terms as hero and villain still remains open. Certainly, in our contemporary society as well as in ancient Greek society, the murder of ones children would be consider ed intolerable and condemned. But if one traces the development from a victim to a villain and takes the motives for such intolerable acts into consideration, the acts dont become more tolerable but they do become more human. Also, certain traits, such as ruthlessness or willingness to self-sacrifice, can be considered as both heroic and negative. So are there really heroes and villains, or are we all just human?

Important Clinical Issues Of The Family Conflict - 812 Words

Important Clinical Issues Avery, Tova and Travis all show stress as a result of the family conflict. I listen, validate and support Avery’s experience, and normalize her sense of alienation as a natural outcome of the discrepancy between her upbringing and her racial heritage. I applaud her strength and steps toward â€Å"reculturation,† defined by Baden et al. (2012) as the reclamation of one’s birth culture that serves to alleviate the dissonance felt by many transracially adopted individuals (p. 388). Although Avery is considered to be the client of interest, I believe it would be beneficial to invite Tova and Travis to join their daughter in counseling. My hope is that Avery will find the space within herself to embrace her unique multicultural identity. Potential Countertransference As a multicultural counselor, I want to learn about the different worldviews of my clients and understand my own reactions (Sue Sue, 2012, p. 6). I understand the advantages I have as a White person, and that many systems I take for granted are often closed or dangerous to people of color (p. 12). People of color experience racism on a regular basis as part of our culture, and so I assume that in any clinical case involving a client of color, racism is at least part of the story (Kivel, 2002, p. 551). In my work with Avery, I might feel attacked by her expression of anger or outrage over her conflicted status. Nature Vs. Nurture Persuasive Essay Example For Students

Nature Vs. Nurture Persuasive Essay HumanitiesBy: Joe CoxMrs. Strutz 4th hr. What makes one exhibit the tendencies that define its existence? Is it the natural chemical balances and imbalances that one is born with? Or could it be the way they breathe in the life around them engrained in their mind from those who care for them. The age-old question regarding nature and nurture can be argued either way and has by countless learned and brilliant people. Examples are aplenty supporting both sides. But what does this mean form me? I am an 18 year old young man trying to shape myself into an ideal person, I have tendencies, habits, talents, these come from both sides of this paradox we have before us, nature or nurture, what is it? For me I think it is a little of both, nurture can explain a lot of what is Joseph Cox, however it cant explain everything and for everything else we look to nature. I personally believe I am who I am because of both nature and nurture. Chemistry is an important aspect of why we act the way that we do. Genetically, our parents can pass down many of their traits to us. One may be genetically dispositioned to be an alcoholic like myself. But if a child grows up around alcoholics and sees at a very young age that alcohol rules the worlds of those around them they may be prone to think this same why. I am an alcoholic not because I drink too much or even too often but because everyone in my family is. And like the color of skin this trait is passed down with ease. My brain is addicted to nicotine. Like alcohol the brain becomes addicted to this chemical unlike alcohol this vice is an acquired one. I nurtured myself into this habit. So to support my thesis the chemistry of the brain can be both. Every teenager exhibits similar tendencies. Many of these tendencies can be credited to the numerous physiological changes occurring in the body at the time. Many teenagers act out or change study habits these changes can be because of the internal confusion that one is feeling. Not all of the typical behavior shown by teenagers comes from the chemical changes occurring in their bodies. Teenagers often rebel because of the certain way their parent parents, or the crowd the run with. Teenagers undeveloped rapidly changing entities are extremely vulnerable and can be morphed through the attention given to them in a certain social situation. Now in relation to the wild child we once again show both sides. This child was left out to fend for herself in the wild and there for nurtured herself. The product of this: and anti social being but one still containing the characteristics of a human girl. Who is to say that this girl wasnt naturally a schizophrenic or suffered from autism? Exactly . Now the phenomena concerning twins baffles me. To hear about twins separated at birth but exhibit the same tendencies suffer the same illnesses amazes even the most intelligent people. This would most definitely be nature. On the other hand some twins never separated, who grew up wearing matching outfits etc. exhibit none of the tendencies of the prior. This whole topic is so baffling it is easy to understand that because of such different data coming from such similar case studies why researchers are stumped. Men and women are heavily influenced by nature. Men growing up in a house full of women still come out men and vice versa. However society has such strict definitions drawn for what makes a man a man blah blah blah that in whatever type of environment you are in this will be engrained in your head. However at a very young age children make a discovery that they are different. Now if you kept a girls hair short dressed her in boys close she may not discover until and obvious time that she is different. Upon learning this she will act as if she is different therefore showing the difference in men and women. While many women or me are raised around the ideal picture society paints many of the defining traits, passions, talents etc. are interchangeable. Birth order is one may lean more towards the nurture aspect of the debate. While many children show the typical signs of their birth order I think it is because of how they are treated in their family that would explain why they fit in th ere particular birth order mold. If parents had two children and didnt know who was born first or last then these kids would never fall into the birth order sterotype because they werent treated in that particular way, I am a middle child, my parents know that I have always been treated ass a middle child. Hmm what a coincidence that I follow the birth order handbook to the t. .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61 , .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61 .postImageUrl , .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61 , .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61:hover , .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61:visited , .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61:active { border:0!important; } .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61:active , .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61 .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u585c094b64194f97f936cef1a5408b61:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Methods of replacing the wear parts of the cone crusher EssayI am a product of the way my brain was when I was born and the thoughts my parents, peers, society, have beat into it. Writing Historical Essays - Present Tense Usage

Writing Historical Essays - Present Tense UsageThe first thing to remember when writing a historical essay is that the current tense should always be used for events and details that took place in the past. A lot of grammar rules are put into place by a person's language. However, there are certain words that should never be used at all and this includes certain tenses. Many people who are very passionate about their history and their region know how important using the present tense can be. In fact, using the present tense is what gives the entire piece of writing it's purpose. Here are some examples of historical essays and where the present tense should be used.Perhaps one of the best examples of how the present tense should be used in an essay is the story of Columbus. Many people use present tense when writing about a person or a group of people in history. However, the timeline in which the Columbus made his voyage is quite fuzzy. The actual event might have been even after 1492 .The primary objective of this essay is to present factual information. It doesn't matter if Columbus' actual voyage happened over 150 years ago or it happened hundreds of years ago, it doesn't make any difference. The timeline is too jumbled to ever truly be categorized as an event. While writing historical essays, the best advice is to always stick with the present tense. In fact, there are only three things that the essay will be failing at if you do not stick with this rule. The most important being in trying to present any sort of narrative. There is no way to include anything as a narrative in a historical essay. If there was any kind of narrative, it will not be included. When dealing with a person or a group of people, it is vital to use the present tense. What you should be doing is to present the facts.Nowadays, many people are able to handle the process of writing about historical facts. For this reason, they tend to say things such as 'the truth' instead of 'the facts'. In this way, they can avoid grammatical problems that may arise from using the present tense. When writing a historical essay, you should know the rules about using the present tense. However, do not overuse it. You will find that once the rules are followed, the essays written are more accurate and that they will stand up better in the future.

Philosophy - Introduction to Ethics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Philosophy - Introduction to Ethics - Essay Example her in prison for six years, the system hopes that it will teach a future generation that just because you commit a crime and then become a fugitive for twenty-three years, you still do not escape justice. This is a utilitarian view. On the other hand, the retributivist view is the one I favor. Susan Ann Power did not need to be locked up to prevent her from committing future crimes. She had become a law abiding citizen for twenty-three years. This still did not change the crimes she had helped commit. Most state and federal laws, certainly the ones where Powers and her accomplices committed their crimes, state accomplices are just as guilty as the actual participants. Under these laws, Powers and Saxe could have received life sentences for the death of the Boston police officer. The least that Powers could serve was six years for the participation in a man’s murder. While she was on the run, having a sun, getting married, and being a good citizen, this officer’s family was suffering from his death. Everyone who participated in this crime needed to pay for the price of this man’s life, not just the one who shot him. Susan Ann Power received a balanced sentence of eight to twelve years. She proved that she would not continue in criminal activity. Power proved that she could become a law abiding citizen. Although she deserved to pay for her crime, her up standing life should have been taken into account as well. People labeled Bentham’s theory of the good life as â€Å"the pig philosophy†, because Bentham’s felt there were only two true mediums; pleasure and pain. After that, Bentham only went with the greatest happiness theory. Bentham’s theory was considered â€Å"the pig philosophy†, because what can give

Yundi Li's piano concert Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Yundi Li's piano concert - Essay Example The paper tells that Yundi has a very fantastic interpretation and recreation of the Scherzi. This may be the first time that the ‘chopin humour’ is heard in any of these pieces. Yundi is also keen on giving the much needed emphasis to the left-hand, where one only wonders, isn’t it just amazing that someone can actually play in this way? Then in comes the Liszt Sonata. The Liszt Sonata is among the best recordings ever. Yundi gives it justice with his amazing skill and passion. It is now evident that Yundi is not just any other virtuoso. Yundi is impressed by the amazing and shattering way especially on the emotional part of the piece, at that point where Liszt struggled with his other side character. Yundi’s mastery of every subtle nuance for each lyrical part of these pieces in music is just amazing as it is not often heard from other artists. There are also smooth transitions from one theme to the other, and the audience is seen to be obviously moved an d is in sync with the performance, where you get yourself asking, is there going be Liszt’B Minor Sonata better than this? Yundi is seen to be one of very deep feeling as he plays, as it is not always, that’s one will find a pianist gets immersed very deeply in the music during their performance. We can say that music flows out of his fingers and in a very natural way which results in such a very deep feeling. As a gifted young artist, Yundi Li, uniquely distinguished from most his contemporaries by his ability to put a personal stamp on each work, and putting eccentricity to very fine detail. He is an inspirational artist that is keen on delivering performances of equal and standard quality, outlining different circumstances. Skill is portrayed in the first Scherzo as he plays with controlled wild abandon that matches its temperament. There are very slim chances of none of hearing another performance which so clearly risks everything for the inspiration of a moment. T he same can be seen from the three Scherzi that follow. He plays with the equal heroism of the second and is balanced more by the brooding character seen in the third, and the fourth which is slightly lighter. The Liszt Sonata which is mighty and greatly difficult to control is brought to its knees as Yundi plays it with such amazing virtuosity, which he combines with such breathtaking sensitivity. The Liszt seems to break under its great length and its varying mood swings, which later starts to grow in its stature as it goes on. It is not surprising that by now the audience grows ecstatic as it responds to the now built unforgettable event. One
